Wilson Reading
The Wilson Reading System (WRS) is a "comprehensive intensive program for students in grades 2 or higher, including adults, with significant reading and writing challenges. The program is based on phonological-coding research and Orton-Gillingham principles. WRS is appropriate for students with significant difficulty in word-level decoding, automatic word recognition and fluency, and spelling, including students with dyslexia who require an intensive remedial program."
The Wilson Reading System has 12 steps, each containing specific and scaffolded instruction to develop students':
- Understanding of the alphabetic principle
- Phonemic awareness (segmentation and manipulation) skills
- Sound automaticity and blending skills
- Understanding of total word structure (syllable patterns, morphology, and rules of orthography)
- Automatic reading and spelling of high frequency words, including irregular words
- Fluency with connected text
- Vocabulary
- Oral expressive language development
- Comprehension skills
