Health and Fitness Mobile Apps

Here are a few different mobile health and fitness apps that you can download for free.  Some of these I have used myself, and some I have just researched and learned about.  There are apps for just about anything you might be looking for health and fitness related. There are not links, but just the names of the apps for you to look up on your phone with a bit of a discription of what each app's purpose is.  Enjoy!!

 

1. Myfitnesspal - Myfitnesspal is a smartphone app and website that tracks diet and exercise.  You can keep track of the food that you eat throughout the day and it will give you their caloric values.  You also record your physical activity in the app.  It is very interesting to see how many calories we take in during the day and how much we burn. This app takes a little bit of discipline to be honest and keep up with it, but once you get started it's a very motivating tool!! 

 

2. Strava- Strava is a social-fitness network that primarily tracks cycling and running exercises using GPS data. This app will track where you run/ride on a map so you can see exactly where, how far went, as well as how long it took you to do it.  I believe that this app also interacts with myfitnesspal I spoke about above. 

 

3.HeavySet- Heavyset is a workout log only available on the App store for Iphone/Ipad. This app allows you to log your workouts and eliminates the paper and pen recording.  This is an intricate app that can even set up tempos for your exercises.  It will track your gains and increases in weight for each of the exercises that you are doing. 

 

4.Lifesum- Lifesum is another app that is very similar to myfitnesspal.  It's another way to track your nutrition and your excerise. 

 

5. Headspace- Headspace is your personal guide to health and happiness. It can help you focus, breathe, stay calm, and create the conditions for a better night's sleep by practicing meditation and mindfulness.

 

6. Calm- Calm is a meditation and relaxation aid equipied with over 100 sleep stories and guided relaxations that you can use to ease your mind and finally relax.
